Attic Insulation: The Big Two

The attic is the primary source of heat loss in most Ontario homes. We specialize in two high-performance “blown-in” materials that reach the current Ontario Building Code standard of R-60.

Blown-In Cellulose:

• The Material: Made from 80-85% recycled paper treated with borate for fire and pest resistance.

• The Benefit: It is denser than fiberglass, providing superior “air-blocking” capabilities. It fills every nook, cranny, and irregular gap around joists and pipes, effectively eliminating “thermal bridging.”

• Best For: Eco-conscious homeowners and older homes with irregular attic spaces.

Blown-In Fiberglass:

• The Material: Spun glass fibers that are naturally non-combustible.

• The Benefit: Unlike older versions, modern blown fiberglass doesn’t settle over time, meaning the R-value you pay for today is the R-value you keep for decades. It is naturally moisture-resistant and won’t rot if your attic experiences minor condensation.

• Best For: Budget-friendly upgrades and moisture-prone attics.
